Get back to nature; chill out in the bush

WagonDrift Game Lodge

(Updated 01/01/2011)

1 January 2011

Hi Everyone,

Happy New Year!

2010 is  over, and the six months since our last newsletter, have been very eventful.

Clive and Sharon have relocated to Pretoria permanently, having bitten the proverbial bullet and purchased a house in Waterkloof to be close to Leya’s school and shorten the travelling distance to Jo’burg. Cyril & Phyllis still live at WagonDrift, but Cyril has moved his business to Pretoria and is no longer commuting to Alberton daily, and Phyllis has finally officially retired. Des & Muriel are still in Jo’burg.

Some time ago we recognized the need to find someone to take over the Lodge business because, as much as we don’t like to admit it, it isn’t possible to do everything! We set about trying to find someone who loved the bush, and was as passionate about this business as we are. It was our good fortune to meet Charles Randall.

Charles has many years experience in the hospitality industry, particularly in the management of game lodges. In November, Charles took over the operation of the Lodge and we know that the traditions we established for the Lodge will not only be maintained but will be enhanced under his leadership.

Charles has exciting developments

planned, the first of which is the

renovation of the Bush Camp,

overlooking the valley where the

game often graze. It will

accommodate 16 people, and offers

basic comfortable self-catering

accommodation with electric lighting

and gas appliances. It is ideal for

group getaways so, if you are looking

for a venue to host a bulls party or

simply looking for a place in the bush

to get away to with the extended

family, give Charles a call.

We are now in the fortunate position of being able to enjoy the best of both worlds! We get to spend time on our beloved farm simply enjoying the bush, without having to worry about all the little things that come with running the Lodge. We also still get to see all the friends we’ve made through the Lodge over the past few years when they return to stay at WagonDrift.

We wish you and yours a healthy, happy and prosperous 2011.

Warmest regards from the bush,

Clive & Sharon, Des & Muriel, Cyril & Phyllis, Charles & Staff.

Dates to remember

22 – 25April - Easter Long weekend

27 April - Public Holiday (Why not make Easter a very long weekend?)

1 May - Worker’s Day

2 May - Public Holiday (another long weekend)

Text Box: DB5 Game Reserve Update
The access gates are in place and a further 20 000ha has been fenced into the reserve.
But unfortunately politics have got in the way and more delays have been experienced.
However the latest expectation is that the Reserve should be a reality around Easter, with lion and elephant joining the rhino that were introduced in 2010.
